Celebrating Everyday Heroes.

A core value at St. Supéry is sharing joy - in our homes, in our daily lives, and at those special occasions with those we hold dear. This Fall, we are sharing the stories of those bringing joy to their own communities. So many are doing good things and making their world a better place without seeking recognition.

Let's celebrate these everyday heroes.

The world was at a standstill from the COVID-19 stay-at-home orders and many small businesses didn’t know how they were going to cover employee paychecks and next month’s rent. A resourceful business owner and giving philanthropist, Calvin went to work. After navigating the process for himself Calvin realized he had an opportunity to assist those in need. Calvin provided countless hours of assistance to bay area small business owners including a hair salon, nail salon, metal fabricator and more.

Calvin provided guidance to ensure applications were properly completed and the right boxes filled in. With programs like Paycheck Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster Loans, the process can be lengthy and hard to understand. Calvin’s selfless contributions, strengthened the community, one application at a time and secured 70K in funding to keep their business doors open and dreams alive.

“It was surprising and shocking to discover that so many business owners were unaware that these programs existed.”

“Getting the PPP was the first step, it’s not over, there is still more work to be done.” States Chin. “With English as a second language for those that I assisted, it requires handholding and advocacy.”

Calvin spends his free time devoted to the Virgie Giles Foundation which he co-founded with his business partner Topher Delaney of Delaney+Chin. The foundation is anchored by the mission to serve the unrepresented in our communities while helping to raise funds for environmental and justice causes.

Christopher nominated an Everyday Hero, Calvin Chin, for #EverydayHero #InJoy @Stsupery to celebrate their volunteer contributions to and #givingback.
