Celebrating Everyday Heroes.

A core value at St. Supéry is sharing joy - in our homes, in our daily lives, and at those special occasions with those we hold dear. This Fall, we are sharing the stories of those bringing joy to their own communities. So many are doing good things and making their world a better place without seeking recognition.

Let's celebrate these everyday heroes.

Michael Caldarola is an active volunteer with the UpValley Family Centers, serving our community in multiple ways. He has been a volunteer tutor, assisting students at the local elementary school with English or Math on a weekly basis – for several years. Michael is enthusiastic about giving back to the community, and making it a vibrant, inclusive and supportive place for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Each year, he is paired with one or more students and serves as a mentor, giving lots of encouragement and support as needed. This past year, tutoring services were offered virtually, and Michael stepped up to be of support in a new modality – continuing to help local students through a very trying time. Michael has also served as an IRS-trained and certified volunteer with our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program – helping hundreds of low-income households to file their taxes for free, and saving them the cost of going to a paid tax-preparer. Thanks to Michael and other volunteers, the UpValley Family Centers’ VITA program has assisted in securing $7 million in tax refunds and credits to local families.

Michael has also been an active board member for UpValley Family Centers for the past six years, serving as Board Secretary for much of his tenure, and helping to govern the organization through the challenges of recent wildfires and the pandemic. Michael helps in fundraising so that UpValley Family Centers can continue to provide a broad scope of social services to local children, families and seniors, as well as support for community events, such as Día de los Muertos.

Jenny nominated an Everyday Hero, Michael Caldarola, for #EverydayHero #InJoy @Stsupery to celebrate their volunteer contributions to and #givingback.
