Rosanna, a Cope volunteer since 2017, got involved to create a better future. “I was researching organizations to get involved with and was really impressed with how Cope focuses on prevention,” Rosanna said. “Their work creates a generational ripple effect. Helping parents today impacts their children and their children’s children. That really inspired me and I knew I wanted to be a part of it.”

Rosanna prepares materials and tools for the home visit team while also fulfilling other administrative duties. At times of crisis, like the recent wildfire relief efforts, she was there ready to lend a hand or provide support. “It was very heartwarming because people came to us at their lowest, most desperate and most helpless point, and we were able to help them. It felt good knowing that we gave people smiles despite the horrible circumstances.”

Rosanna work is not done alone, she is often accompanied by her son Sergio, one of Cope’s biggest (and youngest!) ambassadors. Sergio and Rosanna play a key role in the social events. Most recently, they organized craft kits that were distributed to families who then joined the virtual gathering to make heart animals. Sergio and Rosanna led the session providing a unique experience of connection and parent child bonding. Each year Rosanna and Sergio reach out to local businesses to secure donations of arts and crafts supplies, toys and books to be gifted to children at the annual Family Holiday Social. At the event they provide cookie decorating classes and fun craft projects.

“It is extremely gratifying to see parents breathe that sigh of relief when they see their children smiling and laughing,” recalled Rosanna.

“I know the work that I’m helping to do is helping parents. By providing resources and support in their time of need, we are lightening their load just a little bit so they can be better parents. I like being part of that engine of change. That’s what keeps me coming back and a smile on my face.”
